Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025 Top Quality
Dont be fooled by it's size nor the cute look. It might not be a monster like a big rig, but it is more than good enough to go through 6-10 inches of snow.
It's lightweight, so it's easy to store in your basement when the winter season is done. No difficulty starting it. Works through the snow like butter!!!
Love it!! It's the best bang for your buck you'll ever find in it's class! Buy 1 and be in winter heaven, not hell.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

I used the Toro 1800 today for the first time. Initially, I had abit of a problem putting the handle and plate together but eventually got it done. I first tried the Toro clearing new snow on my deck.It was easy to clear off the 10-12inches that fell here in NYS overnite. As noted in other reviews, it was like using a vacuum cleaner.
I had no problems with the 100'extension cord, even when I worked on my driveway (140'+/-)and parking area(about 20'x25')later in the day. I knotted the cord in the special place on the handle and held "the tail" in my left hand. The cord never pulled out and never got near the machine. The Toro blew the snow about 5'-15', but the strong winds made it hard to tell how far it could throw snow on a calmer day.
This afternoon, when the snow was freshly fallen and the sun came out, the machine was easy to use. However, as the day got colder and the snow got icier, it was abit more difficult to maneuver the machine and it did not clear all the way down to pavement. Actually, that encouraged me to continue on to the unpaved section of my driveway, where the Toro worked just fine, leaving about 1-2" of snow cover-so no worry about stones getting caught in the machine or being spewed out. I think it will have better power when I buy a heavier duty cord. I still have some 40' of my driveway to go but feel that it will be easy to finish off tomorrow.
My only complaint is that the carriage screws on the deflector hood are too long for the locknuts. Nothing keeps the hood in place when it is horizontal, especially with the strong wind. The deflector kept flying up and with the wind blowing, I sometimes was covered in snow. I'm going to call Toro for shorter carriage screws, per a previous review.
All in all, the Toro 1800 turned out to do a pretty good job, mostly limited by me, a 5'1" couch potato. If the deflector hood had stayed put, I would have rated the Toro 1800 at 5 stars. As a user of the Toro, I rate myself at 3 stars.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
Bought this little machine a few months ago, had our first few snow falls this month. Worked great for a couple of inches, our first "major" accumulation was about 6 inches, did not work that great ... not enough power. You have to make multiple runs to get the job done. Although you get better with practice. Also it does not throw snow 30 ft, perhaps 15. Works best when the snow is powdery. Overall I would recommend for small areas, but if you have a long driveway etc get something with more power and wider clearance
Pros
Light weight.
Inexpensive
Great for sidewalks or small driveways
No complicated starter system like the gas monsters
Fairly simple and easy to use, no maintenance
Cons
Does not come fully assembled, and not that easy to put together.
Does not work that well in "heavy" or "slushy" snow
Keeps getting clogged
The electric cable is a real pain; you need to practice to get effective at using it

Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025 Review
First of all, this item shipped the SAME afternoon I bought it AND it was at my door the very next day without any expedited shipping charges! Awesome!!
My little Toro got his first test this morning and he passed with flying colors. He blew thru six inches of snow with ease even clearing the end of the driveway where the snowplow had left a pile for me. A guy who offered to plow me out for an exorbitant fee drove by around the time I was finishing. I just smiled, waved, and mumbled "keep right on going". I actually look forward to the snow now- bring it on! Ha! Ha!Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Order Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
I live in central New Jersey, and had the first opportunity to use my new Toro 1800 snow thrower today on 1-2" of wet, heavy snow. Throw away the Toro specs of throwing snow 30 feet - this might be the case for light fluffy snow, but not with the wet snow on my driveway. I'd say 2 feet to 10 feet of throw was more like it. All in all, using the Toro took me about as long as it would have taken to clear the driveway with a good snow shovel, but it was easier on my back. The product has several weaknesses and annoying design flaws, in my opinion:
a)The discharge chute clogged constantly with wet snow and had to be cleaned out manually
b)No matter how I aimed the deflector on the 2-piece discharge chute, it leaked some snow down it's back, between the two
pieces
c)As other have noted, the long extension cord kept getting in the way and having to be moved
d)A most annoying property of the extension cord connection is that its locking design limits the size of the plug that it will take. The plug of my 100' heavy duty extension cord wouldn't fit into it. The manual says nothing to warn you about this when choosing an extension cord. I had to cut off part of the plug enclosure to get my plug to fit.
e)Keep in mind that the blades of the rotor are plastic. After using the Toro just one time, there are nicks and deformities of the plastic from hitting some of my red stone mulch.
f)The crank that turns the discharge chute kept coming apart from the shoot. It doesn't lock into the crank very securely.
g)After clearing half of my driveway, the Toro started throwing a small amount of snow straight out instead of through the shoot. I think this was due to the build up of ice on it, but some manual clearing of the snow didn't help.
On a positive note, I had none of the assembly problems that others have mentioned. I found assembly staight-forward and easy. And my back still feels fine.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.
Where To Buy Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
I live in SE PA .. NW of Philadelphia. We just had about 7 inches of snowfall and in preparation for what I'm expecting to be a snowy winter I figured I should finally get a snowblower. I'm sick of a sore back and a crabby mood.
However, I hate having to change oil on gas engines, spark plus stink, the weight of them stinks, and the cost stinks. BUT they are pure power monsters. I was worried an electric blower wouldn't have the power to move snow in case of the infrequent times we get a foot or so. Well, after today I'm not worried anymore.
First of all, assembly was stupid simple. The handle arrives broken in half, simply slide the ends over each other, put the bar in place, and screw it down. I bought a 100' blue cold weather cord from lowe's (approx $35) and it fit in no problem. It also was not a big deal to maneuver around since it was pliable the entire time.
And finally, the snowblower worked like a champ. It was digging through some fluffy snow initially but as the sun came out it was pushing some heavy stuff just fine. No, it's not going to throw the snow 30', but it's great for our 2.5 car wide driveway that is maybe 5 car lengths long. And at the bottom of the driveway it was digging out snow that was taller than the blower itself.
My back is completely fine, my mood is great, and I love my new cost effective, maintenance free workhorse.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Purchase Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
I encountered the same assembly problem as the previous reviewer. There's an electrical cord that runs through the right side of the handle. The cord is too long, and it can't be poked into the top or bottom half of the handle, so it doubles over and sticks out the gap between the two handle pieces, thus making it impossible to shove together.
UPDATE: With some creative thinking and a rubber mallet (!!), I finally got the thing assembled. (I turned the right handle around a couple times, twisting the cord and taking up the slack. Then I lightly tapped it with the rubber mallet, and voila.) Once the handle came together, it was a breeze to finish assembly. And with auspicious timing, we got about 3" of snow last night, so I was able to try it out this morning. I cleared the driveway and sidewalks in less than half an hour. I was pleased that the Toro Power Curve wasn't too loud, since I'll need to use it early in the morning when it snows and don't want to incur the wrath of my neighbors! It was a little annoying dealing with the extension cord -- but less annoying than dealing with a backache after shoveling for an hour. After using it, I would upgrade my review to 4 stars ... just be prepared for that handle assembly.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.
Buying Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
Perhaps it has been improved, but an older one I had that has similar specs was generally useless in Cleveland winters. I literally threw it out with the trash after a few years. I couldn't even bring myself to sell it to someone as I felt I'd be misleading them that it did much of anything. A high quality snow shovel is faster and better. Completely bogged down with anything more than a 2 to 3 inches of light fluffy snow. Heck, a snow good shovel clears that in no time w/ no cord to tangle, run over, or accidently pull out of the socket. I'd suggest getting a "real" machine or a good shovel. This is an in between solution that I wasn't satisfied with personally. Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Cheap Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
I've been using this snowthrower for 5 years now, and it works ok, but has definite limitations. If you have a driveway that's longer than 30 feet, then seriously consider buying a gas-powered one. To me, the hassles of using this snow thrower is balanced by the relatively few days of heavy snow where I live, and also by my dislike of maintaining gas-powered tools. Recommended with reservations.
PROS:
- Lightweight and compact, so can be stored in shed easily.
- Electric, so virtually no maintenance.
- The electric motor is surprisingly powerful.
- Simple to set up and use.
- Works very well with dry, powdery snow.
- Quality construction, and zero problems in past five years.
CONS:
- Lack of torque and lightweight plastic construction means that it cannot handle compacted, icy, or wet snow. (This is when you feel like junking this tool.)
- There should be a mechanism that 'locks' the electric cord connection to the thrower, so that the cord doesn't keep disconnecting.
- The handle should retract and telescope for leverage and also to facilitate storage.
- The tiny plastic wheels must have come from a toy factory. They provide no traction and are merely useless appendages.

Cheapest Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
I just purchased a Toro 1800 and after reading the reviews on it, I could see why a lot of folks were complaining that the chute hood would not keep its height throw adjustment. What I did was take a Dremel tool, attach a cutting wheel to it and cut a slot on the head of the smooth carriage bolt right in the middle of it. Just deep enough so you could fit a short/wide flathead screwdriver into it. Then while holding the screwdriver in place you can use a open ended wrench or socket wrench to tighten the lock nut really tight. Save Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
Generally speaking, I like Toro Products, but in my experience the Toro Power Curve 1800 just doesn't cut it. I use an electric lawn mower in the summer, so I figured I'd try an electric snowblower for winter snow removal. How bad could it be? It was bad. The only thing the 1800 has going for it is its ease of use. There are really no controls to worry about. You provide your own electrical extension cord which plugs into the 1800; then just squeeze the red plastic bar at the top of the handle and you're good to go. It is lightweight, but unfortunately that is its greatest drawback and liability. I am in New England, and the first time I used it with about 4 inches of snow, the 1800 was fishtailing all over the place. It just couldn't handle it. It wouldn't go in a straight line either, and had terrible difficulty overcoming the resistance of a minor snowfall. Believe it or not, the wheels are hollow plastic like the ones you find on a child's toy dump truck. Remember the Tonka Toys? These wheels are useless. The least Toro could have done would have been to use solid wheels that have some heft. Another dynamic that I hadn't anticipated was the difficulty working with a power cord in freezing temperatures. The cord quickly becomes very stiff, unwieldy and uncooperative, and has a mind of its own. A bad scene all around. I returned the 1800 and got back my $329.00. The Toro Power Curve 1800 is nothing more than a glorified electric snow shovel. As much as I was trying to avoid buying a gas engine snowblower, I had to do it, and went with a 5 HP gas snowblower. My snow problems are now solved. Frankly speaking, you will be much better served with a 5 HP gas snowblower from either Toro or Honda - both of which are excellent, and head and shoulders above the electric 1800.

Low Price Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
This little snowthrower handles our 3-1/2 car long by 2 car wide driveway quite well and quickly. We're in the Philadelphia area, and this winter we got a few 6+ inch snowfalls. I found it easy to go out and do a pass after about 4-5 inches had fallen, and then a second pass later when more snow had fallen. It handled more when I pushed it, but I found it more convenient to just plan to make 2 passes (separated by 4+ hours).
The aim of the throw is easy to adjust. The unit is amazingly light and manueverable, fit easily into our small 2-car garage (along with 2 cars). No gasoline maintenance hassles. Before buying it, I thought dealing with the extension cord might annoy me, but it really hasn't been an issue.
The bottom line is, it just works, it's simple, and it's fast.
I only have two very minor issues/warnings, and neither detracts from the 5 star rating in my opinion, since they are both easy to avoid.
1- If your municipality throws cinders on the road and the end of your driveway, you may not want to run the Toro over the cinders. The cinders are SHARP and one got embedded into the plastic, jamming the unit. I easily fixed this myself once I put the unit back in the garage for an hour or two so the snow melted off and I could see why it was jammed.
After that happened, I decided to just use a shovel on the last 2-3 feet of driveway if the township has already dumped cinders. (I'd rather shovel a couple feet than risk damaging the thrower--and possibly be without it for the next snowfall--and have to dislodge the cinder. Other folks may choose to live with the occaisional jam.) If the township hasn't dumped cinders, I'll use the thrower everywhere, and it even handles the plow crud.
2- The mouth of our driveway is only maybe 7 feet from our neighbor's driveway, though most of the length of the driveway, it's much farther from the neighbor's driveway (both driveways are angled).
When I get near the mouth of the driveway, if I'm not careful, this unit throws the snow TOO FAR, into my neighbor's driveway! I don't want to be a rude neighbor, so I found that with a little practice, "pulsing" the electric motor reduces the throw enough to get the snow to land in the grass between drives. Now that I've practiced the pulsing a bit, it's easy. I imagine that just about any thrower (gas or electric) would have this problem--and I bet that an electric is easier to "pulse" to avoid this problem than a gas thrower is.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

I have used the toro twice once on 4 inches of snow and once on 7 inches of snow and it clean down to the pavement with little or no effort. The snow was wet and heavy on the 7 inches and it cleaned and threw the snow with no problem. The cord was less of a problem then I thought it would be,and the low handle did not bother me at all. I am 6 foot tall and never gave the handle a second thought. I also like the idea of just pluging it in and getting to work. Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025 Decide Now
After buying my first house in central NJ, I started buying the necessities. This snow blower came up on sale on Amazon, so I read all I could about snowblowers in a day, talked to some friends and coworkers, then purchased the 1800.
This baby performed great during our big snowstorm (10 " light/fluffy snow) in late Jan 2005. I really couldn't believe how well and how far it threw the snow! And it was light enough to use as a "power shovel" on the super high snow pack at the end of the driveway left by the plow.
Then just this week (end of Feb 2005) we got 5-7 inches of heavy wet snow. I cleared the driveway no problem, and it even threw the slushy stuff at the end of the driveway enough to clear it away.
TWO NOTES:
1) You do need to practice a little to get a feel for how fast to push the unit. Too fast and it will bog down a bit. Simlarily, the unit does swerve a bit if you push it too fast... but this is easily handled by slowing down.
2) Be sure to buy the proper weight power cords. The motor is 12 amps, so it needs at least a 12 gauge cord to supply the electric.... all the more important when you are out more 100 to 200 feet from the wall plug. I bought one 50' and one 100' 12 gauge cord from Lowes. This was more expensive than the el-cheapo 16 or 18 gauge cords you can pick up, but it allows the best delivery of electric power to the unit, and the cords don't "freeze-up" and get stiff like the cheaper ones.
I am very pleased with the 1800 so far, and am so glad I purchased it when I did. I expect many years of less back strain from hand shoveling because of this Toro product.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Living in New York city, it is a tough job to clear out of a snow storm,
you getyour car snowed in your back yard ,its three to five days wait to get out , unless you have a TORO Electric snow blower .
I am proud to say I bought at Amazon.com this Toro electric snow blower and it does the job it has a powerful bite , it cleared my 65 ft driveway in 1/2 hr
it is reliable and worth the money, I do suggest , buy a 100 ft extention cord rated for 15 amps , see Amazon accesories for blower , it needs the rated amount of amps to perform properly , the advertized 12/3 Cooper outdoor wire gives a good source of reliable power .
Also , if the blade stops spinning with the motor running , take off the right side cover and tighten the nut, its very user friendly to fix.

Bought this based in part on the reviews on this site. I tried it out this weekend on some two-week-old piles of snow sitting around in the nether regions of our driveway after the last big snowfall . . . the stuff that has congealed and is all crusty to walk over . . . stuff you'd never think about shoveling. This puppy ate it up and spit it out with no problems whatsoever. It did not break through the layer of ice that had formed at the bottom of the snow, but you can't expect miracles. I'd give it a "5" except I think some people would have problems keeping track of the cord. I'll take that over mixing gas and oil and worrying about fouled plugs any day.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Although I was extrememy sceptical about the ability of an electric snow thrower to perform satisfactorily I am happy to report that this beauty has not been wanting. It throws everything from powder to heavy slush without any problem. It even blew three day old plow-back out of my driveway! Best of all though is its ability to clean the surface completely: it gets right down to the concrete and leaves nothing behind! Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025 Top Quality
My wife bought this for me after watching me shovel our 100 foot driveway with just a shovel. I did fine with 6 inches, 8 inches etc. but I guess my wife thought I was going to give myself a heart attack shoveling the 26+ inch snowfall.
Not being from an area frequented by snow, she did not know much about snow blowers. But since she is very smart, she analyzed all the available choices. Unfortunately, it was not stated that a power cord was required for operation, thus I ended up going out and buying one.
As for the blower itself:
Whoever designed the process of attaching the exit scoop should be shot. Sure carridge bolts are smooth on top and will not cause snow exiting to build up around them. However, it also makes it impossible to tighten them down and keep the exit scoop in place! The best thing would have been to have a square hole on each side for the head shank of the bolt to recess into, thus allowing proper tightening.
The rotating arm for the exit scoop does not click into place, thus by the time one finishes using the blower, the arm is dangling from the crossbar.
Where did they get those wheels? Off a toy truck? Get some real lawnmower style wheels with knobby rubber treads!
It does have some power to it. I did some areas where the cotter pins on the old Ariens my father used to have would have sheared off in a second. (Why I will never buy an Ariens)
If the 2005/6 model can correct these problems (and cut the price to under $150) Then I would give it a better rating.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025 Review
I live in Freehold, New Jersey and we just got hit with an uncharactistically strong snow storm for this area. (14-18 inches). I had just received my Toro Power Curve and used it for the first time.
Actually, the Power Curve is not built to handle this much snow but it did and did it well. The amount of snow that it throws and the speed that it throw it is incredible. It cleans right down to the asphault and tosses the snow over 20 feet.
In snow this deep I had to go slow and let it "digest" the snow in manageable batches. I would push the snowblower into a wall of snow taller than the machine itself, I would then let it toss some of the snow and after it did that I would pull it back to let the remaining snow collapse into a smaller pile. Then I would simply push the snowblower back into that pile and just keep repeating the process. Working that way I could not only get rid of accumulated snow and drifts but I could also dig out the mountains of snow left at the base of my driveway by the town snow plows. Truly amazing.
The only thing that I did not like about it is the set up. Putting the handles on the machine is difficult and user unfriendly due to poor design. You have to thread metal bolts through several holes that do not line up easily. If you buy this product you'll see what I mean. It can be done but it takes time and patience. Once that is finished however this is one heck of a machine. It is easy to use and it performs impressively. It is perfect for people living in states like Jersey where you need a snowblower but not one of those huge gas powered monsters.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.
Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
One would have to get out early in the event of a storm and start cycling through every few hours. It's electric, no fuss until the power goes out. Then what? Lots of choices here, the reader will have to weigh out the factors which make this the better choice between gas or electric. A friend uses one of these and it does okay, another friend of mine, who lives in the snow belt, can only get by with an 11 hp gas, indicating that the 5hp gas couldn't handle the load. Well, if a 5hp gas can't handle the load in upstate NY, then this electric Toro would be hard pressed to prove otherwise. Check out consumer reports, and see what produces the most bang for the buck.
That said, it's light and would probably handle the light chore of snow removal in a small driveway/walkway situation. I used to live in a town house up in the D.C. area and this would have been the ticket, except I was younger and whipping out a $10 snow shovel of good quality was not a problem. Shop For Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
This little guy is unbelievable. It's about 1/3 the weight of a comparable gas blower, and about twice as powerful. My gas blower broke down in the middle of Boston Blizzard '05. I ordered this snow thrower following the advice of another Amazon reviewer who used this for the same blizzard. Assembly involved simply putting in four screws--no more than 10 minutes total. I was able to clear out a path to my driveway in almost no time, knocking down five foot drifts. I even shaved down packed ice piles formed by the snow plow! The Toro not only broke down the heavy piles, it was powerful enough to throw the snow without getting clogged. That's even better than my old gas blower!
This was definitely a good investment. Best of all, there's no more fumes, no more buying gas, and no more worrying about the right mixture of oil. This is a great product.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.
Where To Buy Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
After our 17" snowfall last week I realized the only thing standing in between me and backbreaking manual labour was money. What mattered was how much ... Realizing if I spent $600+ for a gas powered monster, global warming would immediately kick in, preventing snowfall in the Northeast U.S. for the rest of my productive life, I decided it was my patriotic duty to buy a mechanized snow-removal device.
I knew the little electric snow shovels at Lowes and Home Depot would not cut it in 17". A little Amazonian research showed this puppy to be very highly rated. As I have a great deal of faith in the collective intelligence of such a large statistical universe of Internet users, I clicked and Amazon shipped. They had some kind of special and free shipping that brought this down to $275.00 to my door. Though I had done the lion's share of heavy lifting (enough to get my car out of the drive) I was a little less than neighborly in scraping a 9 inch-wide chunk of sidewalk (just enough to meet local regulations and avoid a fine.)
When this showed up on my door two days after ordering, I was pretty amazed. I have to give Amazon credit for price, delivery, and the swell bunch of folks who selflessly share their honest opinions. This benefits all consumers, so I feel compelled to contibute in kind.
This took about 10 minutes to put together (a couple of nuts and washers, and badda-bing !!)
You should know (and this is apparently a trend in appliances these days) you bring your own extension cord !!
Well, this kicked pretty good butt, tossing the hardened snow left on the sidewalk an easy 30 feet as advertised. I can see the cord handling is less than elegant, but that will be true with any non-gas thrower. Cleared an 18-in wide swath in about 2 minutes down to bare sidewalk.
The construction seems a little cheesy (expecially the wheels) but plastic is plastic, and for < $300 I'm not going to complain. The local crackheads here in Philly now are asking $100 to shovel a driveway, and THEY didn't even show up for this last snowfall.
If this lasts me three years (and I suspect it will) I'll be a head of the game.

Order Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
I live in an area that gets 100" of snow a year and i have a 100'+ driveway that this handles very nicely. In heavy, wet snow, however, it does struggle. I have found in low temps from 20 degrees and below, the electric power cord will get very brittle, and I had to replace my $40 100' cords every year. This year I bought a Home Depot 100' cord with three portable outlets on a winder that has steel legs which I bolted to a heavy piece of wood to keep it stable and not dragging in the snow. I then purchased an 50' extension cord that is rated to be flexible to minus 50 degress. I keep all my cords in the house so that they stay flexible until I need them. I plug the flexible cord into the portable outlet and it give me 50' of freedom to move without having to lug a 100' cord. It also saves me money if I have to replace the cord, since I only have to buy a 50' extension, and not a 100' extension. Purchase Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
I just dug my way out of the biggest pile of snow I've seen in years. A couple weeks ago I purchased this great little snow thrower to help me clear the 4-6 inches of snow I usually get on my driveway. Well; the first time out of the barn I was faced with over a foot of snow! As I was opening the garage door, I couldn't help but think "I should have bought the bigger one!". My worries were gone after one minute....
This little monster drove into snow piles higher than the the blades and threw the snow over 10 feet!
This little snow blower lives up to its' TORO name. This is the best purchase I made all year. It saved me a lot of money and it saved my back!Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Buy Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
After years of frustration dealing with gas-powered models....engine troubles, starting troubles, rotor troubles, gas/oil mix troubles etc...., I finally decided to go electric with this small, inexpensive Toro. Consumer Reports rated in very high in a recent edition, so after some research, I bought it for $279 on the web. The first time I used it, I had second thoughts because the power cord can be a hassle...getting in the way, limiting your movement and distance. But after the 2nd, 3rd and 4th times using it, I have to give it a thumbs up. After you get used to the cord, you find that it's much easier to maneuver around it, or just flip it out of the way. And the machine just does the job. Starts every time and moves snow quickly and efficiently. From 3 inches of snow to a recent near 10 inches, this little thing did the job and did it well. My biggest complaint (aside from the cord, which isn't much of a problem now) is that it's not self-propelled. You will be pushing this thing all over. And it does tend to bump up against nearly every little crack in the driveway if you do as the manual suggests and push it with the wheels off the ground an inch or two. Over cracks, you need to let the front part of the unit ride naturally or even up off the ground ever so slightly. Well, since I've only had it for a few weeks, I can't be definitive with regards to any repairs that may become necessary. But at this point, as I see neighbors desperately trying to pull-start their units (like I did only a few days before this one arrived), or fill the tank with more gas, etc... I'm glad I made this purchase.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.
Buying Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
I ordered this snow thrower late night Jan 7 2005 and received it on Jan 13 2005 using the free shipping method, way to go UPS! And it got here just about at the right time. The first chance I got to test this machine was on Jan 19, 2005, 2" snow on the ground. It ran for 10 minutes and it stopped running at all. I opened up the machine to check the electrical circuit and it turned out that there was a loose wire to the trigger, snapped the loose wire into the connector and the machine comes back to life. It was not a good feeling when you bought something online and it broke. It was a good thing I can fixed it without tearing down the whole machine. Toro needs to do a better job at quality control. The real test happened the past weekend, I had 11" for most of my two car wide, 50 feet long drive way. Near the entrance, after they powed the street, it was 16". This machine take care of the 11" area with ease, especially after I figure out how to manage the extention cord. For the 16" area, I found it was a lot easier for me to pick up the machine and shave 5 -6" off the top of the powed snow than trying to remove the snow from under it. Overall, I am really satisfied with my decision to buy this machine except for the fact that I had to do a little bit of repair work.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Cheap Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
I have previously reviewed this product last month with a 5-star review, but felt compelled to write another review based on the OUTSTANDING performance of this little wonder during one of Boston's largest snowfalls in history this weekend. I live just north of Boston, where we got 36" of snow. I again admit that when I first took the Toro out and the machine sank in the snow so I could no longer see it that I wished I had bought a gas powered snowblower. Was I wrong...again!!! This little machine was able to completely remove all the snow from my 6-car driveway and all walkways. Granted, this machine is not designed for three feet of snow, and I often had to break the piles down with a shovel first. Still, this machine did 90% of the effort. What would have taken me 4+ hours before took 1 hour with this machine. It was funny to watch all my neighbors with their big gas beasts laughing at me when I first took out my plastic snow savior. In the end, I was the one that was laughing since I was done way before they were, and didn't have to deal with the countless stalls my neighbors did (and they have smaller driveways!). I also had a few people walking by asking me about the machine as they have never seen it before. Many people want an electric alternative but think the little Toro can't handle it. Hopefully I was able to change a few minds as well! If this machine can handle 3' of snow, it can do anything. I can't say enough about this machine, and I would highly recommend it to anyone.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.
Cheapest Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
I hemmed and hawed for over a year on this product before relenting to myself this past fall and ordering one. All I can say is that I should have placed the order over a year ago. WOW what a powerful machine. I just cleared 14 inches this past weekend from the "Blizzard of 2005" snow. It ate it up with no problem. I was done before most of my neighbors lugged out their beheamoths and got them started. I live in Northern New Jersey, so this machine can clearly "cut it" for the kind of snow we normally get. It being electric, the "cord management" can be a bit tricky, but well worth the minor aggravation. I like the fact that since it's electric, I can leave it in the house by the back door if I know it's going to snow overnight. I literally plugged it in and went out the back door, down the steps and onto the driveway. Fabulous machine!Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Save Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
After seeing a neighbor use this machine last winter I knew I had to have one. Unfortunately, I couldn't get one at that time since Amazon and other retailers were sold out. Luckily, Amazon re-stocked for the new winter season and I snapped one up.
Let me tell you this thing is money well spent. It cut my snow removal time by about two thirds. What used to take 3 hours I got done in 1 hour. I'll probably get faster with experience. While my other, manual shoveling neighbors were still going at it, I was relaxing in my sweats drinking a cup of hot chocolate.
It handled a 14" inch storm admirably. While rated for 10" it can be pushed into deeper amounts to 'cut' into the snow. For deeper drifts it's light enough to pick up and skim off the top until it's low enough to go at normally. One reviewer said it's not good for taller people because the handle is too low to the ground. I'm the same height as him (6ft) and had no problem with the handle height. The unit is not meant to be used with the handle at the same height as when at rest. It's designed for the handle be held up at such angle so the skid plate underneath glides across the pavement. When used properly, it eats down to the pavement. The wheels on the rear of the unit are only used when backing up the unit...not while going forward. This is all explained in the manual which Amazon links to as a .pdf file (don't you just love Amazon?).
The next storm here in Philly (late Feb, 2005) was a wetter, heavier snow of about 7 inches. I did my front driveway before I went to work - something I would not have considered before since it's at least an hour task. The Toro once again proved its value as I was finished in about 30 minutes. Whole driveway and sidewalk. Threw snow easily across width of my driveway onto garden (about 15 ft).
One minor gripe is that I wish the handle were collapsible for easy storage. The other thing that is a bit of a hassle is electric cord management. 100ft of cord can be cumbersome but, in my opinion, less of a hassle than dealing with oil and gas and maintenance of a gas powered unit. Do yourself a favor and get a cord reel. I picked up a hand reel locally at Wally World for about five bucks. Makes cord management much easier.
Update: January 2010
After 5 years the rotor gave out. Sypmtoms were motor would run but rotor would stop turning when it hit snow. Result = no snow being thrown. On exam, the rotor looked okay but I was able to turn it independent of the rotor shaft which should not be possible. I took the side plates off and removed the rotor. The left side, it is supposed to have 3 bosses (protrusions) that engage the coupler --they were stripped bare. It's easy to see why this would happen: the rotor is plastic and the coupler is metal...metal won out. Unit was easily fixed however with a $25 rotor (delivered price) ordered from Toro's parts website. Note: you will need a 5/16" or 3/8" allen wrench (depending on model year of your 1800) to remove the rotor shaft...that cost about $3 at my local Harbor Freight Tools. My total cost to repair for parts and tools was $28! After 5 years I got off cheap. From stories I've heard I know a gas unit would have set me back at least $150 to repair.
Still 5 ***** stars.

Low Price Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
I just got finished doing 3 houses with this machine. More than 18 inches of snow. Not only that, I was also able to get through the snow piled up by the plow at the end of the driveway. Because the machine is so light I just picked it up and placed on the top of the plowed in pile. The blower cut through the pile from the top down.

Lowest Price Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
Used this for the first time today: dug my 50' driveway out from 12"-16"of snow (mostly dry, powdery stuff). Am surprised at how strong the motor is. Saved me at least 2 hours of hard shoveling and no strain on my back either. My only nitpick is that it's tricky to tighten down the hood on the exhaust chute to just the right tension, and you have to use tools to make adjustments. The force of the snow kept pushing the hood up so that snow went out at a higher angle than I would have liked. Will need to tighten it down some more after the thrower has dried out. Other than that, the thrower works great: plug it in and go.
Update 12/20/2009: Took it out for the first time this season. It went 10' down the drive and then stopped. Outlet was fine, cord was fine, blower not. I shoveled the drive by hand, ordered a replacement off Amazon, then figured "what the heck, I got nothing to lose at this point" and opened it up. (Note to self: next time, just take off one of the black side panels rather than immediately unscrewing everything holding the big, shiny red cowling on...) I didn't smell or see any melted plastic and all the belts were intact. Then I noticed that the ends of the black wire that connect the motor to the on/off switch in the handle had come unclamped. (smacks head!) I hooked them back up with a new electrical connector, put all the screws and bolts back on, and the thrower fired up just like new and I was able to clear the pile of snow the plows had just deposited at the end of my drive. Lesson learned - sometimes appliances _can_ be fixed by the user.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.
Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025 Right now
For the size and weight, this is a great snow thrower. It'd take a little longer than the gas type because of the path width. Just used it yesterday with ~6-8 inches of snow with no problem. Great maneuverability, especially if you have walkway with steps.
Just need to learn how to drag the electric cord along. Can use it as though it is a vacuum cleaner.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

I bought this machine from Amazon.com and it was delivered just as expected. With free shipping and no tax, Amazon just can't be beat. Assembly wasn't too challenging if you're careful and read the instructions. That took less than an hour. On the first two snowfalls I dealt with both heavy and dry snow less than 4 inches and it worked great. It would be good if the directional crank was higher and easier to reach. Direction is very important as you are also dealing with a cord which takes getting used to. I learned the hard way-DON'T let the cord get caught up in the blades!! It will damage your cord and the cord is very difficult to get off without taking off the blade. That can easily happen in low visiblity situations such as at night and when you try to hurry. Also make sure your driveway is smooth and free of sticks and small obsticles.
The best way to deal with the cord is to go back and forth, continually working away from where the cord is plugged in. On the next snowfall, about 4 inches of dry powder, it was working well until I hit a stick and then a rut where my driveway goes into the street. Well it stopped blowing snow even though the motor still whined.
Upon examination in my garage(with it UNPLUGGED of course)I noticed that the blade was spinning free of the shaft some of the time. The manual was no help at first. With a little thinking I realized that I could fix it by taking off the right side panel and tightening the left handed hex nut so that the shaft would tighten and engage a coupler. This is part of the process to replace the blade. I suspect that the shaft, upon getting an obsticle stuck in the blades, spins, loosing the blade and allowing it to spin free, the design being to protect the components in such a situation. If this is true, it is a very good design, but it should be explained in the manual along with how to retighten it. I'm sure many people wouldn't bother or wouldn't be able to figure it out and would send it right back for a refund or warrenty service and write a bad review. If the problem happens again, I'm sure I can fix it in less than 10 minutes, so I would rate this 4 and a half stars for mechanically-minded people, but only one and a half stars for those who are not. Of course, now that you've read this you know how to quickly fix it and need not to be warned away.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025 Buy Now
I live in upstate NY, and I pay to have my driveway cleared professionally. I bought the Toro 1800 Power Curve just to clear the sidewalks and patio. It works amazingly well for that task. My only criticism--and it's a serious one for me--is that the handle is much too low. I'm only 6' tall, but I have to bend over almost 90 degrees to operate the thing properly. Bending over so far while walking is very hard on my back, so I put the Toro in the garage and went back to a shovel and broom. I'll probably try to sell it on eBay, making clear that bidders should be under about 5'4". An adjustable-height handle would have made this a perfect light-duty snow blower. Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025 Best Quality
I was always the last guy to get his driveway clean after a snow, if I even did it at all. Well all that has changed now. I got up this morning to 5 inches of snow and couldn't wait to try out my new Toro.
I went out at 8:30am this morning and before 9am I had my driveway (approx. 20' X 30') and the walk to my front door completely clean to the surface. Before most of my neighbors had even got out of bed I had already finished cleaning away the snow.
I live in Indiana and for the most part we get 5 to 10 inch snowfalls at a time, this machine will have no problem handling that. Maybe, if you live in an area that gets bigger snows you might need a bigger, gas powered thrower. But this thing is so light and easy to use that I would say just about anyone could use it and never have to shovel snow again.

I am getting older and feel wiser now having bought this electric snowblower. It handled a foot of snow easy, with bigger drifts you just go slower. I love the no gas/oil worries and relative quiet running. My brother has to get his gas blower fixed every winter. The chute kept popping up, so I had to tighten it down a couple times. I shovel the small stuff (1-3"). But for the 2-3 times a winter 4-12" snowfall, no more huffing and puffing during and afterwards. Used it for the first time on 8-inches of snow. I was doubtful that the machine would handle the load, but it cut through with power to spare. It even handled the heavier mess from the city plows. Overall, it exceeded my expectation, and they were already high after researching and reading many favorable reviews. This is a good buy.
Pros: Compact, lightweight, hangs on my garage wall, and it works!
Cons: Noisier than expected for an electric.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025 This instant
I bought this product becuase I have back problems and was planning to use it to clear our patio and front walkway. I subsequently canceled our plowing service for the driveway figuring I might try to do it myself (driveway is about 100 ft. long).
So far I've met with mixed success. I've used the Toro twice so far on very different types of snow (two weeks ago was powder on a windy day; this morning was really wet snow during a light sleet). Both times took me about an hour from start to finish.
The snowthrower 'broke' on the first use just as I was finishing up (could have been my fault since I ran over the cord about 30 min into using it). Turned out to be a loose bolt that holds the rotor shaft. One trip to the hardware store to get a 3/8" hex wrench and 15 min. of simple repair and it was working fine. For those fix-it-yourself types this thing is about as simple as you can imagine and the scraper, rotor and belts all seem very easy to replace.
Cons:
(-) Dealing with an extension cord while snowblowing is a pain; make sure to get a very heavy-duty, weather-resistant, brightly-colored extension cord; has a cord-minder on the handle which is nice but the main problem is avoiding running over the cord
(-) Bogs down somewhat when dealing with heavier snow
(-) Fairly limited clearing path
(-) Less distance when throwing to the sides than straight ahead (which makes sense when you look at how it's designed)
(-) Handle could be a little higher (I'm 6 ft.)
Pros:
(+) Very quiet relative to gas powered throwers
(+) Lightweight and easy to handle
(+) Easy to maintain / repair
(+) Overall does a nice job; seems to get down to the pavement fine; when I was done my driveway looked better than I ever remembered it after it was plowed.
(+) Reasonable price; don't get me wrong, you're not getting a marvel of modern engineering -- more like something well designed and made very cheaply overseas, but if it snows 7-8 times this year I'll have paid for it by avoiding paying someone to plow.
For what it's worth, on my way to work this morning, I passed a guy just down the street using a huge gas-powered monster and it looked like he was having a tougher time than I did with the electric Toro. Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.
Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025 Top Quality
Here in Colorado Springs we get several 6-10" snowfalls every winter. This thrower works very well for us. It throws our dry snow about 15-20 feet. It scrapes right down to the pavement. It is very light weight and not at all hard to handle. For those of you used to gas powered machines, having a power cord following you around takes a little getting used to but the convenience of this thrower being electric powered is more than worth the effort until you develope a technique for avoiding the power cord. The only negative I can think of is that the handle could be a little longer for those of us over 6 feet tall. Buy yourself a brightly colored 100' heavy duty extension cord to use. Overall, you won't be sorry if you purchase this machine.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025 Review
It does what it's supposed to do - handle snow up to 10 inches very well. It sounds like a vacuum cleaner, but it's powerful enough to throw the snow accross my double driveway and into the yard.
We had a record 16 inches of snow here in OH last week, and I was able to remove the snow in 2 passes. It isn't really designed for so much snow, so it took 2 hours to do my 40 foot, 2-car, driveway, or about twice as long as it would have taken for under 10 inches of snow.
I would have given 5-stars, but the handle and wheels are somewhat flimsy. Also, I had to keep re-inserting the crank that controls the direction of the chute - not a big deal, but a little annoying.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Yesterday we got around 2 inches of solid ice, not snow. I sprinkled it with some ice melt, and went back to work, when i returned, i fired up the Toro for the first time, and it worked perfectly. Took that slush and ice and lobbed it into the yard.

I received this snow thrower a few weeks ago and have used it twice. It is easy to use, lightweight and really works! I wanted a snow thrower that was electric so I didn't have to worry about having gas available. You plug this in and go! It takes a little whil eto get used being aware of where the cord is, but it is so easy to use, I didn't care. Just make sure that the cord is long enough to reach the farthest point of your property.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.
