First off, make sure you have a good 12-14 gauge 100-150' outdoor extension cord. It doesn't come with one. Other reviews have said that since the machine has some plastic casing, it's not able to dig through ice and such. For the most part I agree. If you have a lot of ice build-up on your driveway, this thrower won't be able to dig through it with the power that the gas monsters have. However, our driveway was covered in about a foot of snow that had mostly frozen.
This little toro tore through all that snow and threw it about 30' onto the neighbor's house. I was amazed at how strong the little machine was. I had to be careful to try not to hit the neighbor's house. It took a little longer to clear the driveway since the thrower isn't very wide, but it was so fun my wife and I took turns makings runs down the driveway and back.

i bought this snow thrower for my dad who lives in wisconsin. it's been over a year now and so far he's really happy w/ the product. they get pretty deep snow out there, but nothing the toro 1800 can't handle. my parents especially like the electrical part, b/c they don't like the ordor emitted from gas blowers. the cord can be an annoyance, but it's something that they don't mind. they also like the small form factor and that it's easy to store in the garage and easy to take out. OK, so this thing isn't a huge, gas-powered snow thrower. It's a small electric, and you have to make some allowances.

That said, once I got it assembled (more on that shortly) I've had nothing but good experiences with it. This winter has been pretty bad -- multiple storms that dropped more than a foot on my yard -- and the 1800 chewed through everything with no complaints, even when the snow was higher than it was. It was at its best, of course, with light, dry snow, but it managed just fine with heavier, wetter snow, and even managed to scoop up the slush at the road end of the drive.

There are really only two downsides to this snow-thrower, as far as I'm concerned. The first is simply that it's electric: dealing with a power cord is a pain, and seriously limits the range of what I can do. The second is construction: the bolts that hold the chute in place just can't be tightened down enough, so the piece that's supposed to control where the snow goes slips over time, and I have to readjust it periodically.

I really like this snow thrower. I am a 40yr old female who has to take care of my home by myself and works 40+ hrs a week.
