YardMan 31AS2B5-801 Single-Stage Snow Thrower with Electric Start

The specs on this machine sounded great for me -very lightweight but could handle up to 10" of snow, a decent motor size and clearing width for a single stage. However, it has been nothing but trouble. First, the belt broke after the first 5" of clearing heavy snow. That was replaced, but then there were problems starting it. The second winter (this one), we have had a lot of snow. It gets through 6" fine, but it can't throw snow even 10' from one side of the drive to the other, so I end up doing it twice, or three times - very weak in that regard! In addition, it took a lot of time to get it to work this season, and it doesn't leave a clean driveway, even if you do it twice, so I end up shoveling for the last round...and then it snows again. Altogether, it has been a major disappointment. Better than a shovel, but most of the time, my neighbor blows it with his two-stage.

Suncast SC1300 18-Inch Snow Shovel/Pusher Combo

I've had mine for a few winters now, and I've only had two minor issues with it:

1) the edge has worn down over time, since there is no metal guard like other models

2) depending on the type of snow, sometimes it sticks to the shovel, but I remedy that by spraying non-stick cooking spray on the shovel every now and then

Even though I have a few different types of shovels, I use this one the most. I have a long driveway with a wide end, and two long sidewalks to keep clear; this shovel makes it easy to get the job done without destroying my back like a metal shovel.

if you get a light snowing(say 2.5 inches or less) this is the shovel to do the job. its very wide so you can cover alot of ground in a hurry. the only downfall is that due to its size it is hard to pick up alot of snow at a time. it is however very well made but it might be better to go with a 24" instead.

Rotary Replacement Belt for MTD #954-0101A / 754-0101A

I have a Troy-Bilt, but there are obviously many brands that change the color of the plastic and sell it as their own. The owner's booklet listed the belt part number, I found it here on Amazon for about half the price of a local purchase.

After reading my booklet further, I found there was an adjustment to the cable that engages the blower, so I made this adjustment and now this belt is my spare. You might want to check if your machine has 2 holes in the lever on the handle like mine. It took all of 30 seconds to move the cable to the other hole!

Still wouldn't hurt to have a belt when you're ready for it, though.

The snow joe is ideal for me since I have no storage space for a gas run snow blower and I am a woman. Those large snow blowers can be too heavy to push. Swisher 27-Inch Snow Thower, 11-Torque, Electric Start, Plastic Chute (Non-CARB Compliant) #627852x07A

After nearly 40 years of battling big snows in the Colorado mountains, all the hard way, I finally bought of of these Swisher snowblowers. I have a 500 foot long driveway that goes uphill to a highway that is cleared in the winter. The rest, my drive , is up to me.
This weekend we had about 4' of fresh, wet, heavy spring snow. When I went out to clear it, it was still about 30" deep. The Swisher cleared my entire driveway in a few hours. It is amazing!
The only problem I have is that the tires begin to slip and dig holes going uphill. I have tire chains and of course, I have misplaced them.
My son calls this machine "a beast". It is a champ and worth every penny I spent. It was throwing rocks along with the snow until I made two 3/4" skids for the front to increase the ground clearance.
