Finally realizing the idiocy of lifting snow in 1990, I surveyed showthrower choices and came upon the ideal-looking Toro 1800. I remain enamored of it, as one of the best things I've ever bought. This compact unit has reliably dealt with all depths of snow over the years, including snow up to my waist in one storm. (Undercut the high snow with the thrower, give the snow a kick, and it collapses to the ground.) A be-prepared type, I bought spare parts from the dealer, just in case; but the unit has yet to need any maintenance (outside of recent replacement of its two little bottom steel skids, which I easily fabricated myself from scrap). I have a gasoline lawn mower, but do not want to deal with gas and oil in the winter; and why deal with all that in a very heavy, garage-consuming snowthrower when I can hang the capable 1800 on the wall? No more shoveling for us! Using this easy to use snowblower is like pushing a vaccumm cleaner! We whrrrr down our sidewalks in half an hour - compared to what used to take us an hour and a half! One hot day in September, I ordered the Toro 1800 Snow Thrower, then prayed for snow. I got my wish, and then some. I had every confidence that it would work well, but it has performed well above my expectations. Once I figured out the length of the electric cord, and how to maneuver around it, clearing the snow from my driveway was easy. Even better, it was fun - and fast. I need a little more practice with directing the snow, especially with a wind blowing. Still, very pleased with the product.

It worked well, for about 20 minutes, then stopped throwing snow, although the motor still ran. I was operating it on a newly paved, smooth driveway, with less than 3" of snow. I also had trouble keeping it plugged in, even though I was using a brand new cord.
When I called Toro, I was informed that they would only cover the product if it was their manufacturing defect & not a "maintenance issue", as determined by the repair center. According to them, just because it broke the first time it was used didn't mean it was their fault or their responsiility. (It wasn't a slipped belt.)
