Discount Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
Purchased snow blower and used it this past winter. It worked very well, even in fairly deep snow. Very good for a small driveway, and also compact enough to get past cars in the driveway. Easy to use and meneuver and threw the snow a good distance. Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Friends warned me against an electric snow thrower. Better to get a gas engine, they said ... you don't have to deal with a cord, you get more power, etc.
Bosh. This thing is fun. The cord is a very minor annoyance at most -- you get used to it early. As for power -- if you need more than this will give you, then you probably speak Inuit. Nice to meet you.

I am unable to fairly review the snow thrower at this time(June) so I have given it a neutral three. It is possible, here in Minnesota, that I may have a thorough review as early as September 10. Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.
Buying Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
I have kids so I didn't want to deal with gas, instead bought the 1800. This snow thrower is great for light to moderate weight snow up to eight inches deep. Heavier denser, wet snow would be tougher but it still gets the job done. In this condition I would shovel when it's around 4 inches.
The chute is great with 180 degree angle to throw the snow from left, right and anything in between, whichever works for you. Plus the chute has an height adjuster where if you're throwing the snow when it's really windy you could lower the throw so the snow won't blow into your face or higher up over a wood fence.
The cord doesn't bother me too much since I also mowe my grass with electric. Since it's electric I could store it in my basement with no hassle or fear with the smell/mess/storage/running out of it/fire hazzard of gas. I've been using the 1800 for atleast 10 years and have no regrets.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Purchase Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
I have used my snow thrower 3 times now and it has performed better than I expected even on wet snow. Very powerful and efficient. It took me 30 minutes to clear my 60 ft driveway instead of an hour and a half with a shovel. The electric cord gets in the way as you walk away from the house but it is worth not experiencing any more back problem. Also the wheels could certainly be bigger and sturdier but overall I would recommend this product for anybody who does not want to use a gaz snow blower.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Today it snowed about three inches and this little blower did a great job. It left the concrete very clean, the cord was not a problem, and the wheels were adequate. It blew the snow about 8 feet so it does not have the longest throw. Where the snow was taller, say 6 inches, the snow guide had a tendency to rotate back to center so you have to watch that.
So for light snow's I'd say this unit is absolutely fantastic. For snow over 6 inches it would probably be ok but would require a little more work to keep that guide on track.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Where To Buy Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
I bought this for my husband as a Christmas gift. It arrived on Thursday...one day before our HUGE snowstorm here in WI! In this area we got 10" of what they call 'heart attack snow' because it is heavy and wet. When I went out and uncovered the box with a MERRY CHRISTMAS he just said 'is it gas or electric?" I said 'electric' and he took it out of the box and then just went out and continued HAND shoveling the driveway. I was very disappointed in his reaction. Now granted it would NOT have been able to cut through the 4 FEET of snow at the end of the driveway from the snowplows going thru but I thought it would have done the rest. Well today he decided to finish all the sidewalks and driveway. We didn't have enough length of cord to do all the sidewalks as we live on a corner lot. He rather 'reluctantly' took the snow blower out to do the sidewalk...I think to just apease me and you should have seen his face when he barely touched the button to start and away it went. His face just LIT UP!! THEN he had to show me how it got right down to the sidewalk, and all he had to do was 'touch the button' and 'look at chute take that snow.' And on and on. When he stopped for a second he said 'I REALLY didn't think this was going to do anything on THIS snow.! Like I said we got 10" and it zipped that off the sidewalks in no time! He is ONE HAPPY CAMPER right now!! THANK YOU for this great snow thrower!! LOVE IT and LOVE that it takes the stress off his back!

I was real skeptical of an electric snowblower. But I went with this because it was cheaper, smaller (easier to store), lighter (I can hang it to store it and my wife can easily use it). Then 1 week after I bought it, and while out of town, we got 10" of snow overnight. I came back a few days later and had to try this thing for the first time:
Wow. This thing really cleared quickly and easily and down to the cement. Now its not as fast as others but thats expected. Also, I had snow drifts that were about 2 feet high. This has a handle on the front (and its light) so that you can operate it like a shovel and 'skim' the top of snow banks, steps, etc
But a couple of downsides to consider: The cord is a bit of a pain do deal with, the snow direction thing move a bit on its own which can get annoying, the weels are cheap plastic.
All in all I'm really surprised by the power and ability of this small thing. I paid $300 and would do it again in a heartbeat. Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
We had an ancient Toro snow blower that finally gave up the ghost after 20+ faithful years of service. Since we had such good luck with our other Toro, we decided to buy a Toro product again. We like this snow blower! It's a lot lighter than our old one, but it seems to do a great job getting the snow up off the driveway and sidewalks. The only hassle is, if you are used to a gas-powered machine, managing the electric power cord on this machine will take some getting used to.
We found the snow blower at Amazon to be cheaper than any of the places it is available locally (CO), and we received it in two days.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.
Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025 Review
The positive reviews are right on the mark.
I have a single stage gas 2-cycle snowblower and got sick and tired of starting and running problems. Gas engines really aren't suited to sitting unused for 3/4 of the year and started for the first time on a really cold morning.
The gas blower can clear 21" at a time vs. the toro's 18" but would bog down and stall (even when it was running fine) so I ended up clearing only half that width at a pass. With this electric I can do the full 18".
I tested it on the 1.5 foot of snow that fell late last week. I cleared half of my larger than average driveway with the gas blower and got the rest with the electric a few days later. The two are designed the same: single stage with directional chute. Both threw the snow the same distance but the electric toro did a better job of going right down to the pavement. I cleared snow in compacted drifts that were nearly 2 feet deep in spots. Where the gas blower would be on the verge of (and sometimes past) stalling the electric displayed more torque, slowing down a bit but showing no signs of quitting.
The end of the drive was piled high from the plow and the slush had frozen into solid blocks of ice. I was concerned they would break the plastic impeller. Both blowers had a hard time breaking through the ice crusted shell in that high pile so I broke it up with a shovel and tried clearing it with the gas blower because it has a metal and rubber impeller. It did about 8 feet and stopped running inexplicably and wouldn't start again (yes, it had gas).
I used the toro electric and it cleared the broken up snow and ice easily. It rattled and got flung around when throwing the big hard chunks of ice but after inspecting the impeller I didn't find a scratch on it.
It doesn't need gas and oil to be mixed, doesn't produce an acrid cloud of gas and blue oil smoke like 2-cycle gas blowers do, and doesn't need a struggle to prime, start, adjust the choke, etc.
Everybody has complained about the wheels but they work fine for me. Under normal use they're hovering 2 inches off the ground anyway. Also, tightening the chute nuts needs a good set of pliers to grab the round head of the carriage bolt since the square hole in the plastic can't keep the bolt from turning when snugging down the nut. Doing that gets it nice and tight, and only has to be done once during assembly, but this is a design flaw, Toro are you listening?.
I found that managing the cord wasn't a hardship like it can be with an electric lawn mower mostly because the lawn has trees and shrubs for the cord to get stuck around (which is why I don't have an electric mower). In contrast, the driveway and walks are typically open space.
I used a 100 foot 16 gauge outdoor cord and it's fine. Whatever voltage drop there is isn't noticeable and the wire stays cold to the touch. Don't bother with thicker 14 or 12 gauge wire; it'll just be heavier and stiffer. I ran it on a 15A circuit that also powered the outside lights and the breaker never tripped, but the lights dimmed a bit when hitting really deep snow.
In summary, it works great. It's small and looks a bit like a toy but it's more capable than a gas unit twice its size/bulk. There's a feeling of freedom in not having the nagging worry that it might not start or run reliably, or run out of gas or 2-cycle oil.
It's also lightweight, clean and quiet (sounds like a muffled vacuum cleaner).
I liked it so much I bought a second one for a friend so he doesn't have to put up with his gas blower anymore either.

Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025 Top Quality
Judging by the other reviews, I recognize that my experience isn't typical but-
I received my PowerCurve in November 2005. The belt slipped within the first minute of use. I put it back in place but it kept slipping.
First repair simpy replaced the belt
After it broke immediately, second repair replaced it again, this time doing some "additional calibration"
After it broke immediately again, the third time the toro repaid guy identified a bigger problem that he couldn't fix. So, I took it to a "master" repair guy at the end of last season.
First use, this season, it broke within the first minute. AAAARRRRRGGGGGGH!!!!
What's worse is that while its still under warranty, Toro says it has to be returned to the retailer and Amazon says they won't take it back after 30 days. At the very least, maybe a Brick and Mortar is best for purchases like this.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025 This instant
I bought the Toro 1800 from Amazon in December 2005. Initially, I had abit of a problem putting the handle and plate together but eventually got it done. A few days later, we had some snow. I first tried the Toro clearing new snow on my deck.It was easy to clear off the 10-12 inches that fell here in NYS that nite. As noted in other reviews, it was like using a vacuum cleaner.
I had no problems with the 100'extension cord, even when I worked on my driveway (140'+/-)and parking area(about 20'x25')later in the day. I knotted the cord in the special place on the handle and held "the tail" in my left hand. The cord never pulled out and never got near the machine. The Toro blew the snow about 5'-15', but the strong winds made it hard to tell how far it could throw snow on a calmer day.
The next time I used my Toro, when the snow was freshly fallen and the sun was out, the machine was easy to use. However, as the day got colder and the snow got icier, it was abit more difficult to maneuver the machine and it did not clear all the way down to pavement. Actually, that encouraged me to continue on to the unpaved section of my driveway, where the Toro worked just fine, leaving about 1-2" of snow cover-so no worry about stones getting caught in the machine or being spewed out. I think it would have better power if I bought a heavier duty cord.
My only complaint is that the carriage screws on the deflector hood are too long for the locknuts. Nothing keeps the hood in place when it is horizontal, especially with a strong wind. The deflector will fly up and with the wind blowing, I sometimes got covered in snow. I was going to call Toro for shorter carriage screws, per a previous review, but never bothered to do it.
All in all, the Toro 1800 turned out to do a pretty good job, mostly limited by me, a 5'1" couch potato. The few storms we had the past winter weren't bad, and the Toro worked well enough that I did not have to pay anyone to plow the driveway. If the deflector hood would stay put, I would rate the Toro 1800 at 5 stars. As a user of the Toro, I rate myself at 3 stars.

Upgrading to this tool after using a shovel and 10.5 HP snowblower is the best tool upgrade I have ever made. It is light, maneuverable, and easy to store. Minor maintenance is necessary (nothing compared to snowblowers with gas engines). I am extremely happy with this unit.
Many of you are aware of the blizzards we recently had in Denver, Colorado. The first storm dumped 22" of dry light ("Champagne") powder and the second blizzard dropped 12" of heavy wet snow typical of a spring storm.
I purchased this unit just before the pre-Christmas blizzard and have never been more thankful for a tool. The unit performed supremely well throwing snow at least 25 feet after the first storm and approximately 15 feet after the second. The first storm was 10" over the top of the snowblower's mouth and the second was just at the top.
The unit is light and easy to maneuver. The only drawback is the learning curve associated with the power cord. Once you figure out the best pattern to remove snow from your driveway and walkways, it really isn't a problem. Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.

This little snowblower saved us a tremendous amount of work with a large, wet heavy snow that inundated our area. Although the snow was higher than the blower, it was light enough to pick up with a handle and cut the snow down to size. It threw the snow about 15', even though it was heavy.
I'm very pleased. Several of my neighbors are buying one too.Get more detail about Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025.
